The House of Israel Synagogue is a thriving congregation in Ste Agathe Des Monts, Quebec.

Nearly 50% of all Jewish residents in the Laurentians are  members.

Imagine a warm and welcoming, small town Synagogue catering to Jews from all walks of life. There is no litmus test to join or to visit, nobody will ask you your religious observance, your knowledge of Hebrew or how you arrived at shul.

Our objective is that we reach out to each and every Jew in the area so that all Jewish residents become members of the our synagogue.
Recent Events:

January 20, 2012  Shabbaton - Renowned Fox News Analyst Bruce Backman  left his busy life in New York City to spend a country Shabbat at the House Of Israel.  Bruce spoke Friday night to an overflow crowd of over 75 people, at the Kiddush and between Mincha and Maariv about the  current political situation and the upcoming election in the US and Israel.  The people asked dozens of questions and were amazed by his knowledge.  We all learnt a lot about the American political system and its critical impact on Canada and Israel.
Friday night guests were served a sumptuous meal with services beginning at 4:30PM until the last guests left after 10PM.  Temperatures of 25 degrees below zero did not hamper the enthusiasm of the event.
Bruce's visit will be remembered for a long time and he promises to return again.

Raffle Night and Chanukah Party - December 24.2011.  Although the temperature hovered around -20 degrees outside, the shul was packed with over 150 adults and children celebrating the holiday.  There was face painting, contests, latkas and doughnuts.  Magician Alan Greenberg entertained both the children and adults.   Kudos to the Seminary Girls who decorated the shul so beautifully and took the lead in entertaining the dozens of children of all ages.

After the activities, a delicious Chinese banquet dinner was served.  Afterwards, people returned to the sanctuary for both the children's and adults raffles.  Congratulations to our winners who are heading to the 6 star Setai Hotel in Miami.  Only 10 more months until the next set of raffle tickets are sold.

The next day, Sunday, December 25, 2011 at 3:30pm dozens of people gathered to light the large
Menorah at Mont Tremblant
at Prominade Deslauriers.  The light of Chanukah shone brightly for all

Once again, The House of Israel is THE place to be for Chanukah.

Dedication News

On Sunday July 25, 2010, the Rededication of the Synagogue took place.  This historic and monumental event involved visits from hundreds of residents of Ste-Agathe as well as dignitaries including the Chief Rabbi of Montreal Binyomin Weiss, our own Rabbi Carlebach, MNA Lawrence Bergman, Mayor Denis Chalifoux and the entire town council of the Ville de Ste-Agathe-des Monts.  A refuah shalameh was given to MNA Claude Cousineau who is undergoing cancer treatments at the Jewish General Hospital.  The atmosphere was electrifying as synagogue members and non members, Jewish and gentile celebrated the rededication together singing, dancing, talking and laughing.  There was abundant food – Israeli and Quebecois and a terrific performance by a Chassidic mime troupe from France.  After the performance, youngsters played on massive inflatables set up on the street.

The event was covered by CTV News, the Gazette and made headlines in the local newspaper L’information du Nord, entitled Jews and Quebecois – Barriers are broken.
In a world where anti-semitism is on the rise,  the residents of Ste Agathe appear to defy this disturbing trend by embracing their Jewish neighbours.
